Our Salon Gallery Now Features:
Handcrafted Batik Art From Uganda, Africa All paintings featured in this exhibit were created by Ugandan orphans who have experienced the loss of one or both parents. These children and young adults cope with their day-to-day struggles through creativity in their art. The skills, abilities, and talents of these young artists provide a means in an area where jobs are scarce.
Those who purchase these original African paintings are providing support for basic daily needs like food, water, clothing, and shelter. In some cases, it is also used to obtain educational materials in local schools.
The exquisite pieces in this African batik exhibit are comprised of handcrafted fabrics, dyes, and waxes. Each piece brilliantly shows the typical day in the life of an African village.
What is batik? Batik is a centuries old technique combining dyes, wax, and fabric. After originating 1,500 years ago in Egypt and the Middle East, it became common in Asia and Africa.
Each African Batik is an "original" work of art, individually handmade. No two are exactly alike, which adds to their value.
